Why hasn't OJ paid anything is his civil case?

Technically, he has paid a little - with the forfeiture of the memoribilia items that got him in more trouble in Las Vegas. But, as far as the big award for the Gobldman's goes, that is mostly unpaid because OJ filed for bankruptcy protection in Florida, which allows him to keep his home and his NFL pension is protected against lawsuits.
