Can you ask a store to reprint a lost receipt?

OK, if you used an account, like a check or credit/debit card it may be easier to find a receipt. Some companies can go back in their system if you know the date and close to time when you bought it, and being that Nordstrom is a reputable store, I would say you have a good chance. The best thing to do is call the store and ask to speak with a manager. Explain the situation and they may very well be able to help you.
