Is "Uniformitarianism" still emphasized in geology or is this largely a principle deplored by YEC Creationists?

Uniformitarianism was a major topic in Whitcomb & Morris' THE GENESIS FLOOD so Creationists apparently still discuss it a lot. But has the term been otherwise replaced by other terms or is it simply taken for granted as a basic "given" of science?
