Kangaroo Rat as a pet?

For a vacation, we traveled to Glamis, CA. Our friends, during a walk, came across an abandoned Kangaroo Rat. A baby one. We've nurtured it, in fear that it wouldn't survive without it's mother. We left today, and now that we have internet, we are wondering if anyone knows anything about raising it? We are fully prepared to do anything needed, even if it means taking it to a zoo, or natural habitat. We just want the little guy to live. Thank you!
