How do I go about repainting my dashboard?

I have a 1960 falcon that had a padded dash, but I removed it and accidentally messed up the paint on the metal while trying to get the glue off. I now want to repaint it but I don't know how to do so. Any tips, techniques, or recommendations would be great.
